A Saturday Evening Post

Homecoming Marine
by Norman Rockwell

Today we are doing our cleaning and Halloween decorating. Today is also my Grandpa’s birthday, as you could probably tell from my earlier post. I hope he does something cool. We would not want him sitting around twiddling his thumbs on his birthday. I am sure he will do something.

We will be continuing with our Fall Festival here on the website through next Saturday. Then on the 21st, we will start our Halloween extravaganza. We will have a bunch of other fun surprises as we go too. In addition, I am taking a writing sort of class starting this week, so I may share some of that stuff with you people as well.

Well, that is all. Carolynn is playing Poppit. Catherine is cleaning the bathroom. I have to finish my decorating.

  1. Well we went and took Grandpa out to lunch today. I wanted to take him to a little German place but they are not open on the week-end...so we ended up at Pat & Oscars. We had pasta and pizza and a big salad and chicken and about a ton of breadsticks. It was pretty good. Then we to Casino Marongo, he has been wanting to check it out. So on his list of top ten casinos this one did not make the cut....no good penny slots...none of his favorites, no uncle sam, no Max Action, no busy bees.....The Zorro game was kind of cool but that was it. On his list of top Casinos, Pala is still #1 and The Valley View is #2. Paveena is taking him out to lunch on Sunday so that will be nice. We are going to visit my friend Helen in a couple of weeks. Mike and George are going to play in a blackjack tournement and Helen says they have lots of cool Penny slots for my dad. Helen wants us too see how their house is coming along. It will be fun I have not seen her in a while, so we are excited.

  2. Well that made for a pretty good Birthday week for grandpa, your Aunt went down Thursday and took him a big pot of Albondaga (Mexican) soup so he could have homemade dinners for a couple of nights instead of his usual smart and final burritos, and also took him to lunch that day. They had a fun day out of it. Sure hope Cleveland can pull it off, and also Colorado, would make your grandpa happy, those are his choices for the world series. What a game last night. Uncle Steve

  3. Well today Paveena took grandpa out to lunch at Hermans, it is right near his house but he has never been there. He said they had real good food and they were not expensive. He had the Spagetti and they had good garlic bread. He said he saved the menu so he could show it to me. Paveena also gave him a box all wrapped up with 100 one doller bills. He was pretty excited about it,I was excited for him, I am glad he had a good time. He got the football channels on his TV today so he was pretty happy about that too. He watches all kinds of sports, baseball, football, basketball, even golf. A lot of times he kind of nods off while watching, but most of the time he knows what is going on.

  4. Sounds like Dad had a pretty good Birthday week. Pavenna even being an ex has always been there where Dan and his kids haven't and probably wouldn't do a thing, she has always been the one to do things for others. Well she should since she gets a good amount of money for child support and really only takes care of one child. Just glad she does the things she does do, which makes it from his own grandchildren. Just so glad that he had a real good week, with this being the first birthday without Mom. Hope everyone still remembers her and in her good days how happy she made him. He was a lucky man to have her in his life and the same for her.

  7. Well Paveena is a nice person, she took my dad out to lunch because she cares about him. Alyssa went too, and my brother invited himself along so I think it was very nice of Paveena to do that. I do not think she lives high on the hog with that 90.00 a month in child support for Alyssa and she gives her aunt Jonathon's 90.00 and then some...he has been a bit of a problem from time to time.(Teenager) Paveena is a good Mom and Alyssa is a good kid we like having her around.
Joe had to work last week, so he is going golfing with grandpa and Barry on thursday. They like Joe to go because he has "young eyes" and he always finds where their balls landed.
I know he is looking forword to your DVD of his vacation pictures, he likes to share with Barry. And he can not wait until the next time we go to The Valley View...
My uncle Hank also sent him a card and invited him out to lunch so he can check out his vacation pics.
He got a lot of attention the last couple of weeks....good for him.

  8. I also like Aunt Paveena. She is always so thoughtful. Even when Grandma used to call her Purina, like the dog food, she didn't mind. She just needs to tell me what went into those wontons. I got the egg rolls down good. I am glad Grandpa is keeping busy.
