Back To School

The girls went back to school yesterday. Carolynn started 8th grade, her final year of middle school before she moves into high school. Can you believe that? Catherine started 5th grade, her final year of elementary school before middle school. How did my kids get so old? They were all decked out in their new school clothes and with their new book bags. Carolynn made me get up and drive her. I don’t know why. She is perfectly capable of taking the bus. She didn’t have a large amount of supplies. She didn’t need me to help her find out where her classes were. Catherine did. She had a lot of supplies (to keep in her desk and boxes of tissues for the class. She had a list.). I went to the school early yesterday to look for her name on the list and see what teacher she had. She wanted a certain teacher really bad, and was totally against this other one. (Please mom, don’t let me be is Mrs. Lord’s class. She is sooo mean.) So Catherine is in Mrs. Lord’s class. Turns out she wasn’t as mean as she had thought. She rode the bus to school to see if her friends were still on it. Her best friend Tejha moved to Oregon over the summer so she was a little sad about that. Anyway, here are a couple of pictures of the girls on their way to school.

Yesterday I was off. It is so quiet here during the day now. I am going to do some house cleaning and some other errands. Tonight I have to work. I have two and a half weeks more of morning watch, and then I switch from midnight to 8am to 8am to 4pm. I am looking forward to it.

This is going to be a quiet week. With the girls back in school, there will be less going on around here. On Thursday we will go to the concert in the park. This week it is a country band. Yesterday we made pork chops for dinner. Today I am making a Puerto Rican beans and rice dish. A friend taught it to me many years ago and I haven’t made it in a long time.

Yesterday David and I went to see Funny People. It was good. I enjoyed it. If you go to the first showing in the morning, it’s only $5. With the kids in school and my days off during the week, it is nice to have somewhere cheap to go.

  1. They are both so cute in their "back to school" photos. I can remember dreading getting a couple teachers myself and oddly enough, they ended up being my favorite ones.

I was wondering how Funny People was. $5 is a great price for a movie. Ours was just around that for a matinee but they raised the price a couple $ this summer.
