A Burning Ring Of Fire

The county of San Diego is under emergency conditions. There are nine fires (I think) in the area. None of them is near us, thank goodness. However, the kids’ schools are closed and I am home from work. My boss closed our business today. We are supposed to be keeping the roads clear and the phone lines clear. I did run over to the Albertsons’s for garbage bags. It was packed of people.

I am taking advantage of the day to get the house clean. I didn’t get much done over the weekend.

Nevertheless, there is no need to worry. Our skies are still blue. I will keep you posted.

  1. There are several fires all over california. They closed I15 at the 215 due to fires. I hate it when the pass is closed it makes me feel isolated. Are the fires anywhere near where you are planning your camp out? I saw the 78 and 79 on the closure list, but since you said it is not close to you I guess pala is safe. All that area is dry from lack of rain. I can see all smoke from the Big bear fire. I hope they are able to get them all under control before long.

  2. So far we are still fine here. It's not smokey here. The skies are blue. But all the way around us you can see clouds of smoke. We aren't supposed to go places and a lot of the roads are closed.

  3. My friend Karen was going to go up to Mountain Lakes, which is in Lytle Creek, they have a travel trailer parked up there and now the road is closed. The last Time we had all these fires all around us it was just awfull parts of Hesperia were evacuated and I ended up with a house full of Beagles and two of them are still here to this day....

  5. Jen, we got to spend a wonderful day with Hope, left early, had lunch, took her to the cemetary, and left around 3:30, she was getting really tired, well, she is 87. The sky's in San Bernardino were very smoky the whole time we were there, and thank God we left when we did, we even drove by the Shandon Hills Golf course (which had burned all the way up to the green grass, as little mountain burned.) Between the golf course and University parkway we drove between fire, have never driven between fire before, was very nerve racking. Took almost two hours to get home, saw 2 turned over big rigs, and when we got home, the radio said they had totally closed the freeway we were on both directions, it was closed going down, but we were sure glad to get through that. Alot of homes in Lake Arrowhead have been burned down, and all through the mountains. Hope told us to tell you hello, and she is so proud of how you have control on your life. Take care and I will let you know about the digital pictures. Uncle Steve PS, not sure if your familier with the area of University Parkway, there is a McDonald's right there off the freeway, the fire burned all the way up to all those buildings parking lot, couldn't tell if any of the structures had burned, but we could tell all the businesses were totally closed, was weird to even see the Big Walmart on the other side of freeway's parking lot totally empty. Sure glad were on flatland.

  8. Are you home from work again today, sounds like the fires are circled around you there, are you getting the smoke now? You even had the Govenor there all night. I am so glad my days off fell this week when they did, we were very lucky yesterday, if we would have left Hope an hour later, would not have got up here. There was even a fire in the cajon pass in Devore that started at 11am, we drove down at around 9 thirty, so didn't even know about that one, but we did drive by it coming home also, but to us wasn't the big worry, but guess the winds turned after we went through there and they closed the freeway at about 5pm. Like your Aunt says, she would never buy a home or move to a town or area that had the word CANYON in its name. Guess people with alot of money don't mind taking the chances of loosing everything. It is so sad for the people that have lost their homes, but they know from past fires how dangerous it can be to live in those areas. The news this morning was talking about how all these people are getting help financaly for their looses, but they (the rich people that live in these elite areas) that are getting our tax money sent their way, go figure, is it fair or not?? Something alot of us don't think about, but like the newscasters said, lets get through this devestation, and then maybe as a whole we the people should think about changing some of these laws as to where our tax payers money should go in regards to disasters. OK enough said on that subject, just something to keep in mind when it comes to elections and ballots we never really read carefully enough. Well if you got the smoke bad, stay inside, and cook something good today. Uncle Steve
