All Shook Up

So, here I was, sitting on my couch, minding my own business, when the house started shaking. It had already been a busy morning. We got up early and took our recycling to the recycling center. We got ourselves a big $14. Then I dropped David and Carolynn off at the movie theater to see The Dark Knight. (There went the $14.) They said it was awesome. After I dropped them off, I went to the bank to order new checks with our new address on them. I have a full box somewhere with our old address. I have no idea where. I may have sent them through the shredder. I do not write many checks. Anyway, after the bank I stopped at a Jack In The Box and got some French toast sticks for Catherine. Then we went to Kids Kuts so Catherine could get a new school hair-do. It is very cute, but I forgot to take a picture. I will try to remember tomorrow. Then we came home. I sat on my couch with my laptop and began filling out some online forms and stuff for a job opportunity. There I was, minding my own business, thinking, “Hey, I could work at a prison.” (Stop laughing! I could so work at a prison. I am a tough cookie.) Then the whole house started shaking. It did not last long. By the time I registered, “Oh damn, that is an earthquake.” it was already over. I got up to check Catherine, who was barely phased. She was in her room building a fort and watching a movie. It freaked David out. It was his first earthquake. He was in the theater at the time.

Anyway, after the house shook, and after David and Carolynn got home from the movies, I set off to run a bunch of my own errands. I went back to the bank, to the DMV, paid the rent, and signed Carolynn up for her baton class. The cooking class Catherine wanted was full, so she can find a new activity in the fall. We had tacos for dinner. Tuesday is Taco Night at Del Taco. We have not been eating out because we need to save, but we splurged this once. I got tacos for everyone for $9.00. I know I am such a big spender.

Today was my friend Heather’s birthday. Happy Birthday!!!! I would send the See’s Candy, but no job means no money. However, I will send it when I get a fabulous new job. That will happen any second now. David has an interview tomorrow. I have a test for a job on Thursday and an interview next Wednesday. (Seriously, I could work at a prison.)

Until tomorrow...

  1. David freaked, huh? heheh. I'll never forget my first quake. Scared the living daylights out of me. After that, though, they were kinda exciting.

  4. I do not think earthquakes are a scary as hurricanes. People always tell me at least they can give you a warning that a hurricane is going to hit yet lots of people are hurt and even die. We were pretty far away for the center of the Quake, there were some damages in and around the Chino Hills area but lucky for us they were small compared to the damage Katrina did or even the flooding in Texas.

  5. I have no doubt whatsoever that you could work at a prison. Would you actually have any contact with the prisoners? Glad you survived the quake. =)

  6. Trisha- Yep, he flipped out. It was funny.

Pam- Thanks. We are fine. Only David was phased. Even the cats didn't care.

Heather- You chicken. Earthquakes are rare. I'd rather be here than freezing my butt this winter.

Eve- It is a minimum security womans center. I would have contact with prisoners, but it should be okay. At the end of the day, I get to go home and they are in prison.

  7. Glad everyone was safe- we have been seeing so much of this story on the news here. Like the Judge Judy taping footage- freaky. I have never felt an earthquake and I wouldn't mind if this was something I never experienced. :)

  8. I think no prison job for you, the earthquake was a sign. I have not really been in a earthquake it must be very strange the first time. I heard it happens so fast you don't have time to doing anything about it. That sounds better then a storm.
