Betty In A Bag

At 5:00 AM one morning, on a day off no less, I awoke to a strange noise. It sounded like the rustling of plastic grocery bags. We keep them in a cupboard where the trash goes. We recycle them or use them to clean the cat box. One day I used them to cushion a package I sent to my niece.

Anyway, I awoke to the noise. I heard the sound of a cat jumping over the baby gate to Carolynn's room. We keep the baby gate up there to keep the dogs out. They would go in there and eat the cat food or dig in the litter box.

The sound continued. It was close by, then farther away. Then back again. I thought that the cats had somehow got into the bogs and were playing in them at that unfortunate hour. I have enough trouble sleeping, so that was too much for me. I get up to yell at them and put the bags away.

I get up and go out into the hallway. I see movement, but I can't make it out. The hallway light is out. So I go out into the dining room and flip a switch. That's when I see it running down the hallway. It's Betty, our cat.
She has her head in a plastic bag handle and she is trying to out run it. She streaks up and down the hallway a few times. In and out of Carolynn's room a few times. She even goes out into the garage a few times.

I couldn't catch her. She was terrified and just trying to get the bag off hr head. How strange it must of looked... Betty running with the bag handle around her neck like a necklace and me in my undies chasing her... AT 5:00 AM!!!

She stopped a few times and then tried to back out of it. That proved useless. The other two cats were chasing her, just to add to the fun. They thought it was a fun game.

Finally, after about ten minutes of this, I cornered her under the kitchen table and removed the grocery bag from her head. I put it away and went back to bed.

Freakin' cat.

For All The Pups I Have Loved Before

I don't know what I would do without my pets. We currently have three dogs and three cats. We also have a turtle. They have been there through good times and bad. I can't remember having a home without a pet. Even when I lived in a place where dogs and cats were not allowed, I had a cage full of parakeets and a tank full of fish.

We have gotten most of our pets from local animal shelters. Over the years we have loved nine cats. With the exception of the two that we got from Chris and Sherri, all of them have come from shelters. We have loved 4 dogs. Two of those dogs were shelter dogs. We got Gibby from a lady who had puppies because she wanted to breed her chihuahuas and so she didn't have them spayed. Too bad there was a pomeranian mix loose in the neighborhood, who also was not fixed. Elvis is a purebred beagle and we got him from a breeder who was a friend of my mom.

I know that right now, in this economy, it is hard to want to spend your money to give to animals. But I just don't know what I would have done without my Gibby to snuggle when I am sad or Betty to chew my fingers or Muffins (IBK) to hop in bed with me at night.

So here is a way to help. The ASPCA is going to give $100K to an animal shelter in the ASPCA $100K Challenge. First thing you have to do is vote. The 50 animal shelters who receive the most votes between now and April 15, will be eligible to win the $100K, possibly up to $300K with other donations and grants associated with this project. So go to the website, votetosavelives.org, and vote for your favorite shelter or rescue. My town, the neighboring town, and the county animal control are all in the running so far. So remember to vote everyday to make sure your town becomes one of the top 50 qualifiers.

Then, the contest is on. Between August 1 and October 31, it is a race to see how many pets can be saved. Winners will be announced November 30.

How cool is that? All you have to do is vote. That is it. A simple few seconds of your day, everyday until April 15. Easy.

Because without animal shelters, I wouldn't have...

Betty and Muffins (IBK- Itty Bitty Kitty)(She isn't so itty bitty any more though, more like giant and fluffy)

And even though we got Two Face here from Chris and Sherri, we had her fixed at the local shelter. And since we take good care of her, she will not end up in one.

Elvis here was fixed at the animal shelter as well, and when he was sick, they treated him there as well.

And of course Gibby... Who proudly wears his license from the animal shelter and he was microchipped there.

Have you seen that much cuteness? You know you want to save the pets. Do it or I will play this commercial over and over again until you cry yourself to death.

Another Classic

This is a video I found on my camera around Christmas 2006 or 2007. Carolynn is obviously the camera operator. I don't know why no one is wearing pants. I don't know what was the deal with the cat.

This video is titled "The Blair Witch Kitty Project". It is very funny. Check out Catherine's Jello handling skills.

Nothing Else I Feel Like Writing...

So you have to read about my day.

Today I went to work. Then I came home. Robbie is here. He got a new cat. She is Two Face's little sister. I think he should call her Ivy, but she has no name yet. She is very cute. After I changed we decided we would go pick up Catherine and go shopping for some kitten stuff. On the way out, I DID NOT back into Robbie's car in the driveway. Don't listen to what anyone else tells you.

Anyway, we went to pick up Catherine from her friend Cady's house. She left us a message to pick her up at 5. So we went there and no one was home. So we went back to the house to see if she got dropped off. Nope. So we went back again (they don't live far) and there she was. They had gone to the grocery store.

Then we went to PetSmart. Robbie bought his kitten the necessities and we got some minnows for our turtle to eat.

Then we went to Carls Jr for some burgers. I had a Western Bacon Cheeseburger. It was so good. Carolynn tried the new chicken strips.

Then we went to Lowe's to buy a bundle of firewood.

Now we are home. David and Robbie are totally geeking it up around here. They are supposed to be packing up the kitten and her stuff.

I am watching Unwrapped.

And that is my day. Enjoy.

Two Face

Carolynn got another kitten. Seriously, though we have maxed out our limit on pets. Chris and Sherri had kittens and somehow one of them came to live with us. Her name is Two Face. IBK (the kitten Carolynn got for Christmas) thinks we brought home this kitten just for her. Betty, our old garage cat could care less.

We bought her a bunch of toys which she and IBK chase all around and it is cute. As soon as she is old enough she has an appointment with the vet to be fixed.

She is pretty darn cute.

For a Two Face.

Light and Healthy

Since the beginning of the year, we have been trying to be a little healthier. I have been keeping up on my Wii Fit. I have been taking vitamins; a multi-vitamin, a calcium, and a vitamin C. I have been trying to get more regular exercise. We have been walking to the park near our house. It’s about 2 miles. The dogs have been really enjoying it. Drizella gets upset if we don’t go. Now if I could just do better with the dieting.

The kids went back to school this week. I was sort of sad to see them go. Since I don’t often have weekends off, it was nice having them home when I am. And Carolynn acts much more like a human being when she doesn’t spend all day with her loser friends.

For those of you who were wondering, our kitten is doing better. Her cold is clearing up and the vet says that was all she had. She will stay on antibiotics for another week or so. She will stay on immune booster for a few months and she will stay on the vitamins for a couple of months. The vet had her records going back to when the shelter got her. She basically spent her whole life there. Anyway, she is doing good. Carolynn may have named her Muffins, but we call her the IBK. Itty Bitty Kitty.

Today I am off. It’s nice when I get days off. Last week I worked two 16 hour days. Tonight we have plans to eat healthy snacks and play Cranium. Tomorrow it’s back to work. I work 6am to 2pm until Saturday, the 8am to 4pm next week. The week after that I work 7:30am to 3:30pm.

I am trying to keep up with this blog. The more I work, the harder it gets. I have a few ideas for some posts in my head and I will try and do better with some Wordless Wednesday or some Thursday 13. Maybe I will try a few new videos. I used to write everyday. Now I go a week or more sometimes. At least I am not the only one who is slacking in blogs lately. (Trisha, Pam… You know who you are.)

Until then…

Happy New Year!

I know it has been a few minutes since I updated. It is nice to see you missed me. I hope everyone had a nice holiday season. I hate to be a humbug, but I am glad it is over. It was so hectic and cost money I needed for other things. It was so nice to eat all that yummy food and see everyone. But all that extra work and partying wore me out.

I have been working a lot. A LOT! The paychecks will be fat. Work is good. I finally finished my probation. WOO! I made it. Not only that, but I was promoted from a 5 officer to a 6. A little more money in the paycheck. It comes with some new posts to try and new stuff to learn. This is going to be a great year of work. I don’t know why I love my job, I just do.

Christmas was good. I worked on Christmas Day. We celebrated Christmas on Christmas Eve. The girls got a ton of good stuff. Carolynn got the iPod she has been wanting. Catherine got a ton of Pokémon. I got a new sweater and some chocolates. David got a Super Mario game. Carolynn also wanted a kitten. I don’t know why. We have a cat. We unfortunately lost two cats last year. We have three dogs. She still wanted a kitten. A kitten named Muffins. She had lost her mind.

Anyway, I went to the shelter last week to pick up the dogs tags and Carolynn fell in love with a little gray kitten. Muffins had arrived. The shelter said she is 6 months old. They also said she had a cold and they gave her 10 days of antibiotics. They said she was clear to take home. But after a week, she was sick again. I took her to the vet. They ran a bunch of tests and gave her some medicine. They still are not sure what exactly is wrong, but they don’t think it is fatal or major. The shelter covered part of the expense. My ex-husband is sending some money to cover it for his child.(He didn't want to see her cry and he didn't want the kitten to be sick either.) And she should be fine soon.

Our New Year’s Eve was fun. We had snacks and played games quietly at home. I had to work New Years Day.

Anyway, 2009 is gone. It went by so fast. But it was a great year. 2010 is going to be even better. To commemorate the occasion, I made this video. Enjoy peeps. Happy 2010!
