All Your Fault

I was going to write you some amazing blog posts today. They were going be awesome. You were going to be shocked and emotional. They were going to make you feel. They were going to make you laugh. They would have made you cry.

But I didn't write them. I couldn't.

There were zombies on my lawn.

Zombies. They were coming.

I had to do something. You weren't going to deal with them. Nope. You were sitting around waiting for me to write you something.

So I was fighting zombies. Planting plants as fast as I could to combat those pesky zombies.

Because you just weren't helping.

Don't worry. NaBloPoMo is coming. Then you can be amazed by my daily writings... with some help from the girls. Keep a look out. It's going to be awesome. I swear.

But today, no. There were zombies on my lawn.

I have to go now. I think I hear them coming again.

I'll admit it, I am not thin. I have seen a scale. The scale barely survived. I get it. I need to eat better and exercise. I know this. You know this. And yet, here I sit, at this computer, because like many people I know, I can't seem to put it down.

What if I miss some important Tweet or Facebook update?

The hidden objects in Gardens Of Time won't find themselves.

And Pogo would miss me.

And my iPad... the little villagers in Trade Nations can't go on without me and the fruit needs to be sliced ninja style.

And how could I go on with my life without playing Words with Friends and Hanging With Friends?

You get it. And you do it too. It's probably you who is playing Words With Friends and Gardens Of Time with me.

Fitocracy is this fabulous new social media game that forces you to work out to level up. It inspires you with fun quests to try new things. David, the girls, and I have been playing it for a little while now.

And you know what... We feel better! Serious. David lost 7lbs in a month or so. My pants are looser and people at my work have said I have been looking thinner.

We have been having so much fun with this. We have been walking the dogs more. Going to the park more. We even spent some time at the park playing Frisbee with the dogs just to complete a quest.

Fitocracy is the reason David wanted this

for Father's Day and we have all been using it. Even Catherine can bench 20lbs. Yesterday, to try and complete a quest, David and I went out to specifically try to jog a mile is less than 10 minutes. And I have been doing crunches until my abs hurt to try and finish a quest to do 50 crunches in one set. I haven't managed it yet. But I am getting closer.

Because of the Fitocracy, I spent an afternoon in the park playing soccer with Catherine. David did it on another afternoon and little kids in the park joined in on the fun. And David and I have even gone to evening lap swim at the pool with Carolynn and attempted to swim laps. Carolynn smoked us, but we tried it.

Thanks to Fitocracy, my Wii Fit, which has been collecting dust in the closet, has been brought back out. And everyone has been enjoying it.

Recognition

So I was in the Target with the girls and Catherine was examining a fabulous new Pokemon case for her Gameboy (Which she ended up getting in exchange for cleaning the kitchen.) I see a man shpping with his family, and I get that feeling... you know the one.. like “Hey, I know that guy!” But you can't remember where or in what context you know him from. Yep. But I am sure I know him.

Then I go down another isle. There he is again. I know that guy. I swear to it. And he sees me and there, he has that look too. But I don't say a word.

Why not?

Because if I can't remember him, what if he is a former inmate? Some drug dealer or pot grower or meth lab operator who has been recently released? Yep, I am paranoid.

Maybe he is an inmate's relative. I work visiting a lot. Perhaps I have seen him coming to visit.

Maybe he works with me. I don't think so. But maybe. A lot of people work where I work.

Do I know him from somewhere else? I don't know. I don't go many places. But I just couldn't figure it out.

So the girls and I leave that Target with our purchases. Catherine and her Pokemon case. Carolynn and her new Blue Ray movie (Burlesque). Me and my weed killer.

Then I get home, and bam, it hits me!

I totally went to high school with that guy. We were totally friends and in the choir together.

Yep. Paranoia. Thanks inmates. I appreciate that.

Yesterday I was too sick to go to work. You should never go to work sick. You should be mentally alert in a place like that.

However, I felt okay enough to go to the mall with the gang. We haven’t all gone to the same place at the same time in a long time. Since the Loser Cruiser is out of commission (until later this week) we all had to squeeze into the truck. It was not funny.

Anyway, we went and spent the day at the mall. Carolynn is officially un-grounded this weekend, so she was able to upgrade her phone. She got an LG Envy3. She seems to really like it. She and David each got new shoes. David hadn’t had new shoes in about 3 years. Carolynn just wears hers out fast. Carolynn also made her first visit to the Victoria’s Secret. That was difficult. My tiny little baby isn’t supposed to need bras. Catherine scored herself a new Pokemon thing. I got some bras of my own. (I know..TMI.) I also scored a Valentine’s present… The collector’s edition of The Beatles Rock Band. It has Ringo’s drums and Paul’s guitar and all the songs. We were playing it this afternoon and it is so awesome.

We went to Nick’s for dinner with Aunt Chris and some friends. It was so good. When we got home, the Olympics were starting.

I have to say, they replayed the tragic death of that Georgian luger a lot. It was very difficult to watch. The We Are The World remake was pretty good. But what was Justin Bieber doing in there? He looked so out of place. I am not a fan.

The opening ceremonies were kind of tedious. It was a long time into the show before they actually got down to it. It just wasn’t as cool as the openings of the summer Olympics. But it was nice and I stayed up and watched the whole thing.

Today, I have to be at work at 8. Then I have some groceries to buy. And some dinner to cook.

I know it has been a few minutes since I updated. It is nice to see you missed me. I hope everyone had a nice holiday season. I hate to be a humbug, but I am glad it is over. It was so hectic and cost money I needed for other things. It was so nice to eat all that yummy food and see everyone. But all that extra work and partying wore me out.

I have been working a lot. A LOT! The paychecks will be fat. Work is good. I finally finished my probation. WOO! I made it. Not only that, but I was promoted from a 5 officer to a 6. A little more money in the paycheck. It comes with some new posts to try and new stuff to learn. This is going to be a great year of work. I don’t know why I love my job, I just do.

Christmas was good. I worked on Christmas Day. We celebrated Christmas on Christmas Eve. The girls got a ton of good stuff. Carolynn got the iPod she has been wanting. Catherine got a ton of Pokémon. I got a new sweater and some chocolates. David got a Super Mario game. Carolynn also wanted a kitten. I don’t know why. We have a cat. We unfortunately lost two cats last year. We have three dogs. She still wanted a kitten. A kitten named Muffins. She had lost her mind.

Anyway, I went to the shelter last week to pick up the dogs tags and Carolynn fell in love with a little gray kitten. Muffins had arrived. The shelter said she is 6 months old. They also said she had a cold and they gave her 10 days of antibiotics. They said she was clear to take home. But after a week, she was sick again. I took her to the vet. They ran a bunch of tests and gave her some medicine. They still are not sure what exactly is wrong, but they don’t think it is fatal or major. The shelter covered part of the expense. My ex-husband is sending some money to cover it for his child.(He didn't want to see her cry and he didn't want the kitten to be sick either.) And she should be fine soon.

Our New Year’s Eve was fun. We had snacks and played games quietly at home. I had to work New Years Day.

Anyway, 2009 is gone. It went by so fast. But it was a great year. 2010 is going to be even better. To commemorate the occasion, I made this video. Enjoy peeps. Happy 2010!

Totally Tubular

It was game night at our house tonight. Tabi and Kathy and Jackie and Alan and Jackie’s friend, who’s name I can’t remember, came over. We had dinner and played a bunch of Scene It! games. We played 80’s Scene It! and Scene It! for Xbox. It was fun. We really should do this regular. We have tons of games. Four Scene It! DVD games, 2 Scene It! for Xbox, three Trivial Pursuit games, plus so many more. A long time ago, I was a military housewife and when the husbands were not there, we would get together and drink margaritas and play these games. It was fun then too.

Tomorrow I go back to work. Only three days, then three days off. Woo.

Where Time Goes

I didn’t fall off the planet. I have just been very busy. I do have a very demanding job and two children. Occasionally, I like to have time to pee as well.

Work has been going pretty good. In all reality, I am still so new. There are three institutions and many posts at each. Different shifts do different things. It is a lot to learn. I tend to ask a lot of questions. I am not afraid to ask anyone around if I need help with something. I’ll ask other officers, I’ll ask the lieutenants, I will even ask a warden if there is one right there. Most people, including wardens, are happy to answer my questions and help me learn to do my job better. I don’t see my asking questions as a problem. I don’t ask the same questions over and over and I am a fast learner. I have found a few however, mostly other officers, who find my questions annoying, and think I shouldn’t be asking so many questions. Now I was told by the lieutenants, it was the responsibility of more experienced officers to help the new ones. At this point, there are now newer officers than me, and if someone asks me a question, and I know the answer, I give it. I don’t have a problem. I only get annoyed when I have to answer the same question to the same officer over and over. Do you think asking questions is a problem? At my previous job, I learned mostly by trial and error. I had no one to ask questions to. I am thinking that trial and error in my current line of work is not a good idea and there are hundreds of people I can ask. What do you think?

Speaking of my job, my friend Tabi went there today for a job fair they were having. Unfortunately, she was not hired. It’s the prison’s loss. However, perhaps it means she was meant for bigger and better things. When I moved here, I really wanted a job with the county. Really bad. So bad I was bugging the heck out of their human resources lady. But I didn’t get hired. Instead I work for the prison… and I get paid more, have better benefits, and the county is laying people off and the state is recommending unpaid furloughs. I work a full 40 hour a week, plus as much over time I am willing to do. So even though I was upset that I didn’t get a job with the county, it left me open for something bigger and better. I am sure that is what will happen for Tabi.

Speaking of friends… David’s truck is broken, again. Some fan thing (yep, that was the technical term) just fell off. (See my Wordless Wednesday pictures) It seems easy enough to repair and the parts don’t seem too expensive, it’s just he has no tools and no knowledge of car parts… despite what he thinks. He wants to see if Jackie’s husband Alan might help him, but I don’t want them to think the only reason we like them around is for the car fixing ability. We really do like having them over. And Jackie’s husband works two jobs and I don’t know that he’d really want to spend his free time here doing that. So I haven’t called them to ask. I hope they don’t think I am avoiding them.

I am not trying to avoid this blog either. I go through blogging phases. There will be times when I blog about everything, two or three times a day even. Then there will be times when I might feel like it once a week. It comes and goes. Right now, I didn’t have much to say and, well, I just didn’t feel like it. I got a new computer game, The Sims 3, and I have been playing that. I remember way back when the first Sims game came out and Trisha and I had to have all the expansions. She would call me and tell me what her Sims were doing and I would walk to her place to see her Sim house. We made houses that looked like our houses and little families that looked like ours. (Yes, we are cool like that.) I didn’t play The Sims 2. I had gotten a copy one time, but, like much of my stuff at that time in my life, it met an unfortunate end and I never got a chance to play it. This new game is very fun. I have been having a blast. I had been playing a bunch of Facebook games, but I have been totally neglecting Facebook all together for my Sims.

The kids are fine. Carolynn is a pain in the butt. Seriously, I am thinking of selling her and her smart mouth to a hard labor camp. She is currently grounded. Her grades are slipping, she has been caught trying to sneak out of here dressed like a hooker wearing a clown’s make up. Her friends are just as bad. She thinks it is cool. She is wrong. She was trying to get out of band. But she is stuck now. She used to love her saxophone. I don’t know what her problem is, but if she is going to continue down this path, I will have to lock her in her room.

Catherine is fine. She is still a messy little pain, but she is okay. She made some new friends. She joined the choir at school. She is getting good grades. She is on the third Harry Potter. She stated softball again last week. She will be on the Red Sox this season. Her friend Katelyn is on her team and a few girls we recognize from the other teams of the Spring season. Her coach seems okay, but I don’t know if I like him. Mostly because he said some not very nice things about Catherine’s previous coach and I didn’t like that. I felt his statements were untrue and that he had no right to judge, especially since he hadn’t even been there. And I liked Catherine’s coach and so did she and she had a good time. That is what was important.

In just a couple of weeks, our little Catherine will be turning 10. That’s a big one, double digits. She wants to have a party. She wants a bunch of stuff. She has a whole menu planned out, but no cake. She has never been a huge cake lover. She wants birthday pie, apple pie, specifically Dutch Apple Pie. I haven’t decided what to get her yet. She wants so much stuff. I have a few ideas. She has listed a bunch of Littlest Pet Shop junk, but I am not buying that. She doesn’t even play with them anymore. She wants some computer games. She wants some clothes. She wants some DVD’s and CD’s. Those are better choices I think. She wants a hamster or a guinea pig, but I think three dogs, a cat and a turtle are enough.

Speaking of pets, Drizella is still here and I haven’t pitched her yet. Really, she is a good dog. She has not had any accidents. She has chewed up some stuff, but she is a puppy, and it hasn’t been too major. She needs to learn not to eat Gibby’s food and Gibby needs to learn not to take her chew toys and rawhides. But mostly Drizella needs to learn that she is not the same size as Gibby. She jumps up on the furniture, she jumps on people and nearly knocks them down (in the case of Catherine, she actually knocks her down). She pounds on doors to go out or come in. She isn’t dainty. She is getting better though. She is a puppy. She will learn. She already knows not to jump on me.

I think that just summed up my life pretty well. I am currently making a pork roast with baked apples for dinner. I got the recipe from Tyler’s Ultimate on the Cooking Network. I love that guy. He makes such good food. This should be pretty good too. The recipe called for hard cider and I could only find it in a six pack. I drank one last night. It wasn’t bad. I hardly ever drink. It tasted just like I imagined it would, like apple juice with alcohol in it.

Another Happy Freakin Valentine's Day

It has been a long week. My days off this week didn’t come together this week. I got Sunday and Saturday off. Sunday I went to San Manuel with my Grandpa and my parents. I worked five days, one with overtime. I am tired. Frequently this week, I got home from work then had to go right back out again. I had errands to run, groceries to buy, dinner to make.

David had an exciting week too. On Thursday, his grandparents and his aunt came for a visit unexpectedly. He was very excited to see them. I did not see them as I was at work, but he said they had a nice visit and had pancakes at Johnny D’s. Thursday he also got his tax return. We went to John’s Incredible Pizza for dinner and David got an Xbox. He had wanted one for a really long time and just never had the money. Don’t worry you parental types; he didn’t blow all of his tax return on the Xbox, just some. He is looking at going to Texas this April to visit his family, after I get back from Georgia of course.

We are not doing anything too exciting for Valentine’s. I got Catherine a Pound Puppy and I got Carolynn a collector Barbie. I got them chocolates and cards. I got a box of candy from See’s. I did some cleaning this morning and I baked pink cupcakes. I took some over to my parent’s house. I stopped at the Wal-Mart for some laundry soap and I got a game for the Xbox. It is Scene It. I like it, but I win every time and not even by a little. In the last game, I had 98,000 points and the nest nearest to me, David had 40,000. I need my mom to come over and play it with me so I can actually have a challenge.

I looked back at the blog to see what we were doing last year on Valentine’s Day. Last year, I was at work, David was at work, the girls went to school and we had beef stroganoff for dinner. Then the next morning, we all went to Grandpa’s trailer for the last time and helped him move.

Tomorrow I have to work. David and the girls will be home. I have been working 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM. Tomorrow I start on the 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM shift. I have Wednesday and Thursday off this week.

Oh Brother

Today is my brother’s birthday. He is 29 today. I guess he is getting pretty old. He finally caught up with me. I have been 29 for a few years now.

Last night’s concert in the park was not as good as last week’s concert. They were not a terrible band, but they were no Beach Boys. They were a surfer band and they did sing some Beach Boys music. I am sure I will have a video later. We did not stay for the whole thing, so it will not be a long video. I will use real Beach Boys music.

My mom got the girls some new backpacks and back to school clothes yesterday. The girls will be going back to school in style. My mom also brought me some new skirts for interviewing. I hope that they will bring me luck.

Later, Carolynn is going to a video game thing at the library. It is free. I like free.

Cat Scratch Fever

I was doing my Wii Fit tonight. I am up to seven days and I lost 1 whole pound. I was doing some step aerobics and I was going along just fine. Then, out of no where, I stepped on a cat. The cat did not like being stepped on and screeched and bit my leg and clawed it good. Now I have three gashes in my leg. Why exactly did the cat decide that then was a good time to try and sit on the Wii Board, I am not sure. I bet she doesn't try it again.

Wii Fit

My new Wii Fit is sooooo awesome. Okay so the first thing it told me was I am fat. Okay so duh. I am a chubby. Now what are you going to do about it? Make me exercise, that’s what.

The games are fun, the exercise is good and I am enjoying it. It gets me working out for 30 minutes a day. This is my third day. I am getting better and a tiny bit lighter too. David is doing it too. The girls do not need to lose weight, but it helps them stay active. Carolynn is the first of the girls to join in. Catherine has not got a chance yet because she won’t do her chores. Carolynn is almost caught up with her missing homework and cleaned out the whole kitchen. We had a lot of junk.

Yesterday Catherine had a open house at her class last night. It was fun. She had to play tour guide and walk me though her class. We did little activities. Catherine’s teacher said her behavior was improving.

I worked over time everyday this week. I was there as early as 6 and as late as 6. Our usual hours are 8-4:30. As a little treat, my boss sent us home with pay at 2 today. Woo!

I got an email from the job I applied to in Victorville thanking me for my interest and letting me know they would be finished reviewing applicants soon. I have heard from several temp agencies in Austin. I have heard from a few other places in Austin, but they have been saying I will not be there soon enough. At least I am getting the word out. I have applied for many jobs at the University of Texas in Austin too. Soon enough something will happen and off we will go.

Tomorrow we are going to see the new Indiana Jones movie. It should be fun. It has been raining here all day and it is supposed to remain cloudy and rainy through Monday. Not exactly Memorial Day weather is it?

Still Waiting, Still Packing

Today I worked. The End.

Well, that was the end for me. Everyone else did stuff. Carolynn is STILL doing homework. Catherine is still cleaning her room. Actually, right now she is spaced out in front of the TV eating cherries. If her room isn’t cleaned up by Friday, she is going to miss out on Indiana Jones and of course she will be missing my new Wii Fit Board. Maybe tomorrow when she sees it, she will tidy up.

Trisha got herself a job. A really cool paid internship. Now all I have to do is get me a job and we will both be cool. I sent her some congrats flowers. She liked them. I wonder what they looked like. I ordered them over the phone.

Doll Blankets A-Plenty

This weekend Carolynn and I decided to give knitting a go. It is pretty easy. Carolynn is having trouble. She just wants to click her needles and poof! A sweater. We are practicing. It keeps me busy. I feel like I have nothing to do now that school is out.

I have been working a lot too. I have been logging in some over time. We are clearancing out a bunch of stuff. Not much fun going in early or staying late, but I could use the money. I applied for seven more jobs today.

Only two more days until David brings my new Wii Fit. Seriously, video games and exercise, what is not fun about that? It has yoga and some other stuff. Too bad the girls will not be playing until they start being good. Carolynn is still finishing all that homework. Catherine has been cleaning her room for the last decade.

This weekend I think we are seeing the new Indiana Jones film. Moreover, I get a three-day weekend! More time for packing.

My mom had a little drama on her blog this weekend. She has a "Drama Free Zone", can't anyone read that? I don't want any drama here either.

Lots of stuff has happened since Tuesday…

First, my online friend Eve/Carla from Readers Anonymous and from Adams Wife’s Weblog, lost her husband on Wednesday. My sympathy goes out to her and her family.

I hope everyone enjoyed my Wordless Wednesday and my Thursday Thirteen this week. I think next week I really will do Thirteen Things I Have Seen In Nevada.

Carolynn’s teacher got back to me on Carolynn’s F’s in Math and Science. Surprise! Carolynn hasn’t been doing her homework! I was not shocked, but I was mad. Therefore, Carolynn is super grounded. Not only did she not do her homework, she lied about it. I will be getting my new Wii Fit Board all to myself.

Catherine has been being better, not great, but better.

I applied for 30 more jobs since I last updated. One of those jobs is in Victorville. I know, Victorville is no where near Austin. But I heard about the job there from my mom and decided to give it a go. The cost of living in the High Desert (where Victorville is in California) is comparable to Austin. This job would pay more than I make now and allow us to live comfortable. The point of our move was to live comfortable. If we could stay here and live better it would be a lot cheaper to move. Of course, there are so few jobs there if I didn’t get this job, there are no others to apply for so off to Austin we go. And if I want to move to Texas later, I will have more time to save. But what are the chances of my getting the one job I applied for in Victorville over the 100’s of jobs I applied for in Austin? Who knows? Stay tuned…

Political

Carolynn just announced she does not want Hilary Clinton to win as president. Why? Is Carolynn a republican? Is Carolynn checking our candidate’s websites? Nope. Carolynn does not want Hilary to win because Carolynn wants to be the first woman president.

Both Carolynn and Catherine upgraded their phones on Monday, so if Catherine calls you and has nothing to say, she is just looking for a reason to call someone. Also, watch out for random pix messages with pictures of Catherine’s stuffed cows.

Carolynn has almost finished her second book already. Look for the review in a day or so.

Well, January is over. That was some ride. Carolynn ran a marathon. Catherine got glasses. My sister got married in secret. And today, the last day of the month, my Grandpa sold his mobile home. Good for him. That place was craptacular. (That’s a David word for you.)

Now we just have to get Grandpa all packed and moved out. It looks like February will be jam packed. This weekend is the Super Bowl. According to my polls it looks like most of you will be watching and all of you think the Patriots will win. The following weekend I am going to Pala with the old folks to see The Wallflowers and maybe win a little money. I am taking the Monday after that as vacation and that Friday the 15^th I am taking off too so that will be two 3-day weekends in a row. Then at the end of the month, my mom and I are going with her cousins to see the NASCAR. All that and moving Grandpa. It is going to be a busy month.

Saturday In The Car

Today we spent the day running errands all over town. First, we took all the cans and bottles to the recycling center. Then we went to the SuperCuts so David and Carolynn could get their hair cut. Carolynn looks exactly the same, just more even. We went to the pharmacy and to the bank. Then we went to the mall to pick up a few things. We had lunch at Pat and Oscar’s while we were there. Then we went to the Wal-Mart. We got Guitar Hero for our Wii. I think we now own all the best Wii games and all the kids will want to hang out here.

In the afternoon, Catherine and I had appointments to see the eye doctor. My glasses broke in October or whenever it was that my cousin was here. (She did not break them; she was just here when it happened.) I got a new pair today and some sunglasses too. Our little Catherine has the same eyes as her mom and got her first pair of glasses today too. Here is a picture of her with her new glasses.

Then we went to the Circuit City to spend the gift cards my Grandpa got us for Christmas. We got some movies and Catherine got a Wii game called Cooking Mama. It looks cute, but we have not tried it yet. There are people playing Dance Dance Revolution right now.
