By The Numbers

So maybe you are thinking, “Hey Crazy Lady… Facebook isn’t that bad. You are wrong.”

No.

I did a little study.

Here are the facts.

I have 130 Facebook “Friends”. (Probably less now.)

Of those 130, 3 are actually businesses and 2 are deceased persons. So I have really 125 regular “friends”.

I did a study of a random 15 friends for 14 days. I did not pick the friends, I let Facebook pick.

Of those 15 friends, 1 did not post at all during the time frame.

So we are now talking about 14 friends.

In two weeks those 14 friends posted 385 times. That is 27.5 posts per person. That is just under 2 posts per person per day.

126 of those posts, or approximately 32% of those posts, were what I am calling “Real Personal Facebook Posts”; check in at a location, a personal photo, a funny anecdote about something that happened to you…

“Suzy just checked in at Red Robin…. YUM.”

“Look at my little baby…”

“Today at work one of my co-workers told us she got engaged over the weekend.”

You know the stuff that we used to share on social media.

132 of those posts, or approximately 34% of those posts, were… DANK MEMES! Specifically, non-political memes.

96 of those posts, or approximately 25% of those posts, were political. Nope, you are not going to change my opinions with your constant memes and blatant lies. FROM BOTH SIDES! Even if I agree with you, Facebook memes are not going to change the world. No, I really do not believe that the Clinton’s have an island for child sex acts. No, I really do not think Donald Trump keeps small Asian women locked in his basement as sex slaves. And no matter how many times you post it, the Bernie Sander’s loophole is not real.

That was the bulk of them.

There were 13 advertisements shared and 13 non-political news stories shared. There were 2 recipes shared, 2 Facebook games shared, and 1 book review shared.

So basically, 68% of my Facebook feed was nonsense. NONSENSE! And that was just 14 people. I HAVE 125 PEOPLE!

I am tired of this. I am tired of it all. I am taking back my social media. Hell, I am putting the social back in it.

Anyone got a cute picture of their dog I can see?

A Revival

I am sick of social media. Facebook is so full of people who believe everything on the internet. David calls Facebook a bunch of “Dank Memes” and funny cat pictures. Twitter is only useful for news. I use it as my own special news feed. It includes nice things like when Disneyland is open and what movies are coming out. And Instagram is becoming less of family pictures and more of those “dank memes”. I am tired of it. I want to hear about my friends and family. I don’t want to be blasted from both sides with political drama and nonsense. I want to share my life with my family and friends as well. But I can’t do that on Facebook any more. No one will notice between the political drama and the cat pictures. No, I will not copy and paste to show I love America or veterans or cats or my spouse or that I support cancer research or saving the whales.

So I am bringing back the blog. It’s retro. It’s hip. It’s cool. And you know what?

IT IS MINE!

No dank memes.

No funny cat pictures.

NO POLITICAL DRAMA!

Actually, let’s just go with NO DRAMA!

Keep it to yourself.

I am quite excited about this. I finally have a place where I can record my family history in peace. Okay, so I had it all along and I let technology come and jerk me around. You don’t know it yet, but I have already written at least 15 new posts. Yeah. I know.

So get ready.

And seriously, no more dank memes.

Government Participation

Did you get out and vote today? I sure did. David and I went to vote around 6 this evening.

I was at work until 4 and then when David picked me up we had to go pick up the truck from the shop. Thank goodness for Javier, our mechanic. He had the truck fixed in less than a day.

Then I made us a fabulous dinner. I opened my very own Quiznos in the kitchen with some hot toasty sub sandwiches. Why you may ask...

Gay Friday

Okay, so everyone knows, or should know, I am not gay. However, I do support gay rights. I have gay friends. I have gay relatives. I voted no on Prop 8.

I believe that everyone should have equal opportunity. My friend Teresa got married in August, and now her marriage, as well as many others, is in limbo. My aunts, who will have been together for 25 years in January, were going to tie the knot for their anniversary and now may not be given the opportunity. It is unfair.

So today, a week after Black Friday… I am announcing today will be Gay Friday here on my blog. Show your support. Click on the banner to the right for White Knot.org. Get the button for your website. Happy Birthday David

David says he feels old. It occurred to him this morning that he could go into a bar and order anything he wanted and they would sell it to him. That is what old people do.

This morning we went to vote. The voting place is at a mobile home park in the rec center. It was filled with plenty of old folks. Why are polling places always filled with old folks? The lines were not too long. I understand that later in the day the polling places were more crowded. I guess people were going after work and such. I hope that all of you went out and voted. Well, all of you Americans. I know I have a few readers from other countries and I do not suppose they had voting today. By this time tomorrow, we should know who our next president will be. (Probably by later tonight…)

I spent most of the day at home. I cleaned the house, did some job hunting, and baked a cake for David. He got a nice day planner from his dad and card. When the girls got home, we made homemade pizza. I have made pizza before. However, this time I made the dough from scratch. It was so good. Pizza Hut should start to worry. Here is a picture of one of my pizzas. This one is half everything (Sausage, Pepperoni, Green Peppers, and Onion) and the other half is just cheese. I made four pizzas. The other ones had plain cheese, just sausage and an everything pizza.

It is a chilly, windy day. My house is drafty. We have finally used our wood burning stove. It keeps the living room and dining room warm. We have many throw blankets to cover up with. We can wear slippers and sweaters. I am trying to avoid the heater. The house is all electric and I am afraid of the electric bill if I run the heater. Electric heaters can use a lot of electricity.

Busy Monday

Today I drove Carolynn and her science project to school. The science fair is on Wednesday evening.

After I dropped Carolynn off, I did my daily job search. I found a few new opportunities. Then I went to Winco. It was very crowded in there. They were having a sale. They do not have weekly sales ads like other grocery stores. However, they had a special one this week with some really good deals.

After my grocery adventure, I went out on the job search and dropped a couple of resumes and applications.

Next, I picked up the girls and we went to Taylor’s last home water polo match. He has one more match, but it is an away game. His team won in match one, but they lost match two. Maybe they were cold. It was chilly out. I was cold. I am not used to bringing jackets places. I had better get used to it. The girls were cold too, but they bundled up in Taylor’s swim parka. They got it all warm for him to get into after he got out of the pool.

Tomorrow I will go and vote. It is very important. As my mom said, if you do not vote, you do not get to complain. After that, I am making homemade pizza. It kind of got lost in the whole election, job hunt, NaBloPoMo excitement… But tomorrow is David’s 21st birthday. Therefore, I am making pizza and baking a cake. We bought him The Hulk DVD. Do not worry that I am spoiling it for him, we already gave it to him. I bought it when it first came out so it was only $15.00 instead of $19.00 and he saw the receipt I left out. We already watched it. Carolynn saw it in the theater. She likes super hero movies.

The Scientific Nature Of It All

Today I spent most of the day helping Carolynn with/ doing her science project. Over the last two weeks she has been conducting an experiment to see if music changes the way plants grow. The project is due tomorrow.

I went over to my mom's house in the afternoon. My grandpa is making a ton of Chex mix over there. I brought some home. It is tasty. Next weekend he will be making some kind of lasagna. It has chicken and broccoli. It sounds tasty. My mom gave me some firewood for my fireplace. It's getting to be that time of year. I am looking forward to it.

Only two more days until election day. Things are heating up. I think most people have pretty much made their choice by now. Don't forget to vote.

I also spent some time on the NaBloPoMo site adding stuff to my page. I met great people there last year. I am hoping to meet a few more.

Okay, so this Wednesday is nearly wordless...

This is a history making event. I am not saying I want to be a lesbian or anything, but what I am saying is that these women as well as countless other gay and lesbian people have waited a long time and endured a lot of terrible stuff just to be allowed to do what my sister did without telling us when she felt like it.

In the immortal words of Marge Simpson... "As long as two people are in love, I don’t care if they have the same hoo-hoo or haa-haa." "Just because you're a lesbian doesn't make you less of a being."

Political

Carolynn just announced she does not want Hilary Clinton to win as president. Why? Is Carolynn a republican? Is Carolynn checking our candidate’s websites? Nope. Carolynn does not want Hilary to win because Carolynn wants to be the first woman president.

Both Carolynn and Catherine upgraded their phones on Monday, so if Catherine calls you and has nothing to say, she is just looking for a reason to call someone. Also, watch out for random pix messages with pictures of Catherine’s stuffed cows.

Carolynn has almost finished her second book already. Look for the review in a day or so.

Vote

Did you all vote yesterday? I did. I really don’t think it is fair that if you are registered as a certain party, you have to vote within that party. This happened to me yeesterday. I believe, had I the option, I would have cast my vote for someone in a different party. David also voted yesterday. I am sure it was his first time voting. He also had some voting issues. He is not registered as any party so he could not choose at all. His ballot only had the propositions on it, no presidential candidates. I think that if you are not affiliated with any party you should be able to chose anyone. Furthermore, I think that no matter what party you are affiliated with, you should be able to chose any candidate you wish. I know these are just the primaries, but still.

On a side note, to whom ever has been leaving anonymous comments here and on Carolynn’s page regarding the Giants. We don’t publish comments that are “anonymous”. Okay, so my mom posts as “anonymous” but we all know it is her. I don’t know if those comments are from someone we know or if some random person is just going around to any blog that had superbowl posts and adding comments. If you want your comment to appear on this page, you better at least leave a name. You can do this by doing one of the following things;

1. Posting as Anonymous and just adding your name to the bottom of the post.
2. Posting and typing your name where it says nickname at the bottom of the comment page.
3.Posting and signing with a blogger/gmail/aol ID at the bottom of the comment page.

You Know What I Hate?

Do you know what I hate? I hate People who twist simple things to fit their own agenda. This happens a lot in politics, but it can happen anywhere. What happens is this;

A reporter or some other person could ask what is a seemingly innocent question. For example, a reporter asks President Bush if he, like his father, dislikes broccoli. The president could answer by telling them no, in fact he enjoys broccoli with cheese. That should seem simple enough. However what is about to happen will be…..

-If that reporter is of an opposing political party, he will write his report on the president’s bias toward vegetables other than broccoli and his lack of respect for vegetable farmers everywhere. It will also state the president is a friend of dairy farmers and will never do anything to improve anything in favor of other farmers. This must be because he is good friends with the senators from Wisconsin and that he will favor them.

-If that reporter is from the same political party, he will write his report about President Bush’s love of the land, support of farmers of all kinds, and show how he, like the common man, likes his broccoli with cheese. Furthermore, President Bush is a role model to children because he eats his vegetables.

I HATE THAT! Why can’t people just take things at face value? Had I asked that question to our President, my report would have stated President Bush, unlike his father, enjoys broccoli with cheese. That is it. Nothing else. If everyone repeated facts at face value the world would be a better place. In addition, I remind you, as elections approach, do not base your vote on what advertisements say, do a little research and make an informed decision. Always get all the facts, and makes sure your facts are correct, before making any decision, before jumping to any conclusions.

So that’s the end of my sermon. Nothing exciting happened to me today. I got to come home from work early because of the holiday and I get tomorrow off, both of those with pay. I love that, days off with pay. I am making a casserole for dinner. The kids went swimming today. That’s about it.
