No Sense Crying Over

So I was in the middle of writing about our trip to Las Vegas. (See this and this.) Then I stopped.

Why?

Because someone, namely David, spilled water all over my laptop. It has been lost forever. Almost five years of use and it is gone. Luckily, David recovered all my pictures and stuff, so he is sort of forgiven. I also got a nice new tablet to play with. (My iPad still works too, but it is so old and outdated.)

So I am back in business. For the most part. There are some things you just can not do on a tablet. So David will have to share.

So...

Fright Night

As all of you who haven't been living in a cave know, yesterday was Halloween. And since today is day one of NaBloPoMo... I am going to do what plenty of others are doing today and write about it.

I actually had the day off. It was amazing. We carved pumpkins in the afternoon. We made one that had Mike Wazowski from the movie Monster's Inc. My friend Adrienne says it looks like a pig but she is just jealous of our pumpkin skills.

Then we made one that had Maleficent's dragon from Sleeping Beauty. Yeah, we had a Disney thing going here. We are all serious Disney freaks. And you got to admit. This dragon looked awesome.

Then the girls got dressed up. Catherine was a zombie bride.

Something that is severely lacking in my Plant's vs. Zombies game. There are no female zombies. How sexist. Anyways, Catherine looked really cool. Carolynn went as Gir. I don't even know what a Gir is or does or where it came from. All I know is that she loves it. She had originally sent me to the store to get her a Katy Perry costume. I found the one she wanted and decided she wasn't going to leave my house dressed as a whore. So I found this Gir costume and bought it.

And we only saw one other kid wearing it all night.

We went trick or treating in Spring Valley Lake with one of Carolynn's friends. And her little brother and sister and her mom. They live in Spring Valley Lake. As a matter of fact, Kelcie's mom works for the security patrol. Before trick or treating started we went to the community center where they were having games for kids. They played some games for a while and then we started on our candy demands. We went for about 45 minutes before we took a break. Kelcie's dad came to pick up the little ones for his turn to take them and then we headed about for another 30 minutes or so. There were so many kids and it was a nice night out. There were so many cool decorations out and everyone had a good time.

Then we came home. We didn't have any kids come to our house for trick or treat. I can't wait to live in a neighborhood again. We feasted on candy and then ate some ho dogs and watched the finale of Halloween Wars, which we had on DVR and hadn't seen yet. We also watched The Next Iron Chef. This one is what I thought it should be. All star chefs competing for the honor.

So that was our Halloween. Today I am making chicken noodle soup, bread and we are also baking pumpkins for future use in pies and bread and such. We will probably get out the Thanksgiving decorations and put away the Halloween stuff. And clean. There is always cleaning to do. Until tomorrow fans...

I'm Like Tinkerbell Finn, I Need Applause To Live.

On Friday night, Carolynn and I drove to Anaheim to see Glee Live. She got the tickets for her birthday last month. She has been so excited since we got the tickets. On Friday, after I got off of work, she was ready to go. And we were off.

It took us just over an hour to get to the Honda Center (formerly The Pond) in Anaheim. As we were walking in, we saw a sea of Glee shirts. We saw kids dressed like Cheerios. We saw a few dressed in Sue Sylvester jogging suits. We got there early so it didn't take us long to get in. We walked up what seemed like a million steps to find our seats. I bought the tickets late, so our seats were pretty high. So high in fact, there was only one row of seats higher. Here is a view of from our seats.

Once we were seated, Carolynn decided she wanted a program and to look at the souveiers. So we climbed back down to the bottom floor and waited in a forever line to buy Glee stuff. Carolynn got her program.

We were waiting in line and Carolyn kept telling me she didn't want a tee shirt. Nope. No shirt. No way. Too much money. Sure. So it's finally our turn to make our purchases. I got me an awesome Glee mug. Carolynn got a Glee poster and... you guessed it... a Glee Tour shirt. Who didn't see that coming?

So we climbed back up those stairs and got seated again. Then they had a dance crew open up the show. They were called The League of Extraordinary Dancers. They were pretty cool. Then they got the stage ready for the Glee cast.

Carolynn was getting very excited. Then finally, it started and there they were. She had been saying ever since we got there, "They are in here some where." and they were. Right there on stage. And then a girl stood up and Carolynn couldn't see. Luckily, no one was sitting in the row in front of us, so she moved. And she sat there, like a stone, mesmerized for the entire show.

I took over 100 pictures. But not many came out very well. But I got a few pretty good ones.

Thirteen Things That Happened This Week

1. I worked a midnight to 8am shift this week… Right after a 4 to midnight shift. It was hell.

2. This is Catherine’s last week of school. She had a awards ceremony on Monday, a field trip to the skating rink today and an activities day tomorrow.

3. The cable bill was paid.

4. Carolynn is being moved from the Guppy group to the Squid group at swimming. I don’t know exactly what that entails, but it costs an extra $10 a month.

5. Catherine’s soccer is over. They had their end of season party last night. She got a medal.



6. Only one more week on this stupid schedule. I cannot wait. I can say it was better than a whole quarter of midnight to 8am.

7. David giving up soda really sucked. I really, really wanted a soda. I had to send David out to get a pack of Dr. Pepper.

8. I am so glad So You Think You Can Dance is on this summer.

9. There were a bunch of little bugs on my bedroom window. It was so gross. I sprayed them with Windex.

10. Today we are making BBQ pork chops.

11. Catherine got bleach all over one of her new dresses. She was so mad.

12. Today I am doing some serious cleaning.

13. I can’t believe Glee is over for the season. I will so miss that show.

1. Carolynn managed to pass the 8th grade with D’s. Except for the A in PE.

2. Catherine had her school end of the year art fair yesterday. She sure can dance.


3. Carolynn is going on her school 8th grade graduation field trip to Magic Mountain tomorrow. Perhaps she will make some friends.

4. All of our computers are being losers. David’s is dead. Catherine’s is dying. Only mine works and I am so sick of sharing.

5. Our air conditioner is not working. They will be out to fix it tomorrow.

6. Only one more episode of Glee and the season is over.

7. I have been working a lot lately. I worked 16 hours on Sunday and then 18 hours on Sunday. I was asleep for most of Monday.

8. In an attempt to save money I did my own pedicure and David detailed my car.

9. Catherine is going on her 5th grade field trip next Thursday. They are going to the skating rink.

10. I bought some berries and whipped cream on Tuesday. They are gone. I didn’t get any.

11. I want a new grill so bad, but I want to wait until after we move.

12. David gave up soda. He hasn’t killed anyone yet. I miss Dr. Pepper though.

13. Sunday is my niece’s 7th birthday. I got her a dance game for her Wii. It’s like ours and I know she likes ours.

It's Time To Play The Music, It's Time To Light The Lights

The first show I can ever remember watching was The Muppet Show. I loved that show. I can still see my little brother with his Muppet Show jammies. I loved The Muppet Movie and A Muppet Christmas Carol. I love Sesame Street. Muppets are totally cool. I saw this today on Nikki's blog. I absolutely had to repost.

Some Good, Some Bad

Well, the bad news… we ended up getting hit with a bunch of overdraft fees for the bills that came out Saturday when I thought I would get paid. It really blows. But there was nothing I could do. I tried talking to the bank, but banks are cold, heartless organizations. The good news… The TV company decided I didn’t have to drive my TV all the way to Yucaipa to have it repaired. They arranged for us to return it to Wal-Mart and get a new one. David and Carolynn are out on that mission as I type.

I am off today and tomorrow. I am using that time to recover. I thought I was just coming down with a cold, but it kept getting worse. My chest hurt and was coughing and coughing. It got to the point that I actually called the doctor. If you know me, you know I HATE going to the doctor. But I couldn’t breathe right and I could barely go two minutes without hacking up a lung. I really had little option. So today at 2:00 I went to Dr. Sawan’s office. He is a very nice guy. He said I have a mild bronchitis and gave me a prescription. I picked up cough syrup and cough drops while I was at the pharmacy too. I will be fine in a day or so.

Anyway, I mentioned that last weekend, and the weekend before, I spent time having game nights with friends. I also mentioned that earlier this week I got a new Scene It game. So why not put them together and have people over here for game night this week? Is anyone interested? I promise not to cough on you. Should we do it tomorrow night, Friday night? Or should we do it Saturday night? We got the new 80’s Scene It, plus we have 2 Xbox Scene it games. We will have snacks and it will be fun. So who’s coming? Let me know what day works so we can get it planned! I am sure it will make me feel better. Get back to me soon… via Facebook or Twitter or text, or you know, call. It Can Only Get Better

The TV breaking last week, was just the start of things to go wrong.

Due to some banking thing, my paycheck, which is direct deposited every other Saturday like clockwork, didn’t get to the bank. Of course, my bills are set to come out the day I get paid, so unless my paycheck shows up tomorrow, we are in trouble. It should, but until it does… I can’t buy groceries, put gas in the car or anything else. Luckily, we have food in the house and David has a full tank of gas, so I can use his truck to get to work. I drove it today. It was an experience.

Another bad thing… If my check isn’t in the bank tomorrow, we won’t be able to go to Angela sing. I have been looking forward to that for weeks.

I have had a nice steady post at work for a while. I worked hard for it and worked hard doing it. But in reality, I was just filling in. The guy I have been filling in for was out with a knee injury. Well, he came back. I am glad for his knee, but it really messed with my schedule. With his post, I had Thursday’s and Friday’s off. That would have meant all holidays off. But now, I have no idea. I won’t know my Thanksgiving schedule until later this week. They were kind enough I give me Thursday and Friday off this week since that it what I had before the other guy came back.

Last night we went to Tabi and Kathy’s house for game night. I made cheesy potatoes to take. But I didn’t have time to bake them. I decided that I could just bake them there. As we pull out of the driveway, I asked David to hold on a second (we were in his truck) so I could take another look at the address. I put the casserole on my lap. He didn’t’ hear me and went, so I was now covered in cheese sauce. We go back in the house so I can clean myself up and regroup. We get back in and I am trying to be as careful as possible. But when I get out of the car at Tabi’s, I am again wearing cheese sauce.

Other than the sauce, we had a great time. We had so much food. All of it was good. We played games and talked and just had fun. We played Disney Scene It, Scene It, and Trivial Pursuit. Next time we should have game night here. We have two Scene It games for X-Box. We have a whole closet full of board games. (All of last night’s games were ours.)

Another One Bites The Dust

Catherine joined the grounded crew this week. Her grades are not the problem, her room was. It was nasty. Dirty dishes, old dirty clothes, nasty old trash. It was awful. The strange part is she is willing to clean everything else. She’ll scrub the toilets, clean the kitchen, and take out the trash. But she just refuses to clean her room. So there went her shot at NaBloPoMo, since her computer has been taken. I had a parent teacher conference with Catherine’s teacher today. She made the honor roll, of course, but she is slacking off on doing her work. Apparently, she thinks she is so smart, she doesn’t need to do more work. She has also been slacking on her reading, so her teacher and I discussed upping her reading time from 30 minutes Monday through Thursday to 90 minutes every day. That way she can finish her larger books. Also, her teacher would like her to expand her selections from just Harry Potter. Overall, she is a good student. Her teacher says her social skills are getting better too. She does need to learn to match her clothes. Maybe if she could find them in that mess of hers. We are getting it cleaned out this weekend.

Carolynn’s grades improved this week. She also did all of her chores and homework. So she is being permitted to go to her friend’s birthday party tomorrow. She is still grounded from internet, her phone and going anywhere else. If her behavior continues to improve, the grades climb, and the chores get done, she could be ungrounded before Christmas.

Speaking of kids in trouble… Tabi and Kathy’s son Ethan is with us tonight. Apparently, he didn’t do some school work and was told he would not be permitted to go on a family outing this evening to his brother’s choir performance if he didn’t get it done. As you can guess, he didn’t get it done. So he spent most of the night sitting at our kitchen table reading. He read all the books he brought with him, and two we had here. He ate some macaroni and cheese and now he is helping Catherine burn old school papers in the fireplace. It’s our first fire of the season.

If you’ll remember, last year at this time I made a deal with the world… If I promised to volunteer, the world would give me a job. (Check it out here.) Anyway, I went then and volunteered at the Salvation Army. Last winter I spent many of my hours ringing a bell and collecting donations. And the world provided me with a job at a prison. All was good. Not too long ago, the prison gave me a special award for my volunteer service. That is when I realized that the world didn’t think one winter of bell ringing was worth the amazing job. So when Gary from the Salvation Army called last week, I knew I had to go. Yesterday David and I went down there to fill out the forms. So starting soon, you will find me ringing a bell in front of the Stater Bros. on Saturday nights. You will find David there on Monday and Tuesday nights. You will also find us down there several days a week, counting out the kettles for deposit. We are doing a good thing.

Our TV is broken. We just got it in March so it is still under warranty. They are very willing to fix it for free, but I have to take it to the nearest repair shop. The nearest repair shop is in Yucaipa. So it’s kind of a pain, but what can you do? I can’t afford to buy a new TV. (This is what my Grandpa would probably do. But I love him.)

Yesterday was Aunt Chris’ 60th birthday. We went over for cake and took her a present, despite the fact that she specifically said no presents. Mary and Tonya (some wonderful friends of theirs, and now of mine too) were there and their friend Connie (who I have met a couple of times). It was fun. I hope she had a nice birthday.

David is sick. I have been pumping him full of medicine and he has been asleep most of the day. I have been making him drink orange juice and take vitamins too. He has no health insurance, so he needs to stay healthy.

Carolynn was hanging on the dead tree in the yard and a branch broke. She has cuts on her head and both arms. David is watching baseball. I don’t know when he became a baseball fan, but I kind of like it. It has a homey kind of feel, to have a guy in the house occupying my TV with sports. Catherine is in the shower.

The Road To Nowhere

I went over to the Best Buy to see if my camera was ready. They are still waiting on a part. I was looking at some really nice cameras while I was there. I REALLY want one. I mean REALLY REALLY want one. To the point that I am willing do stuff to get one. (No nothing criminal or dirty, people quit thinking that.) I am talking about cleaning, cooking, babysitting, car washing… anything it takes.

David and I took a drive to Barstow today. David is trying to expand his hunt for a better job. I like to get out of the house every now and again. First, we stopped at the outlet mall. Umm… there was nothing there. It was mostly closed up with only a handful of stores. There were plenty of places to eat right there though. We stopped and had some burgers at Bob’s Big Boy. We then drove through Barstow and went to Barstow Station. It used to be a cute little shop along the Route 66 with historic memorabilia and souvenirs. Now it is a dump with some old flea market type junk for sale and a liquor store. I did manage to find some cool post cards to send to Joey and Kayleigh. Barstow sucks. Just so you know.

I have been watching a lot of Gangland today. I am totally obsessed with this show. I am doing some cleaning and laundry. I need to get my uniforms ready for my week. I haven’t decided what is for dinner. I have been such a lazy bum the last few days.

David Rocks

Yesterday we celebrated David’s Day. For those of you who don’t know, David’s Day is something Catherine created. We have Mother’s Day and Father’s Day… Why not a day for David? He does so much. He watches the kids while I work. Drops them off and picks them up from various places. He runs errands for me. He occasionally cooks, sometimes he even cleans. He helps the girls with homework and takes pictures or videos of things I can’t make it too. All of that, and he works at a terrible McDonald’s job and goes to school too.

So yesterday was David’s Day. We did nothing. Well, I went to work and he went to work. I went to In N Out with my sister. I got a flat tire. A nice man changed it for me. While I was talking to his wife, I learned that her son works where I work.

After we got our burgers and our tire changed, we went to this week’s concert in the park. It was terrible. The band was two older, grey haired guys, and an older lady dressed like a Donna Summer’s video. However, they were singing newer music. I never want to hear old people rap again. Anyways, we left. Sarah and Carolynn went to a movie.

Not much else is happening. I will be going to work soon.

I am watching Gangland on the History Channel. I was watching it yesterday and I actually saw a person from my place of employment. It is amazing the caliber of people I interact with during the course of my job. I think people should watch that to see what kind of people I have to deal with at my job. Yes, they really do act like that.
