By The Numbers

So maybe you are thinking, “Hey Crazy Lady… Facebook isn’t that bad. You are wrong.”

No.

I did a little study.

Here are the facts.

I have 130 Facebook “Friends”. (Probably less now.)

Of those 130, 3 are actually businesses and 2 are deceased persons. So I have really 125 regular “friends”.

I did a study of a random 15 friends for 14 days. I did not pick the friends, I let Facebook pick.

Of those 15 friends, 1 did not post at all during the time frame.

So we are now talking about 14 friends.

In two weeks those 14 friends posted 385 times. That is 27.5 posts per person. That is just under 2 posts per person per day.

126 of those posts, or approximately 32% of those posts, were what I am calling “Real Personal Facebook Posts”; check in at a location, a personal photo, a funny anecdote about something that happened to you…

“Suzy just checked in at Red Robin…. YUM.”

“Look at my little baby…”

“Today at work one of my co-workers told us she got engaged over the weekend.”

You know the stuff that we used to share on social media.

132 of those posts, or approximately 34% of those posts, were… DANK MEMES! Specifically, non-political memes.

96 of those posts, or approximately 25% of those posts, were political. Nope, you are not going to change my opinions with your constant memes and blatant lies. FROM BOTH SIDES! Even if I agree with you, Facebook memes are not going to change the world. No, I really do not believe that the Clinton’s have an island for child sex acts. No, I really do not think Donald Trump keeps small Asian women locked in his basement as sex slaves. And no matter how many times you post it, the Bernie Sander’s loophole is not real.

That was the bulk of them.

There were 13 advertisements shared and 13 non-political news stories shared. There were 2 recipes shared, 2 Facebook games shared, and 1 book review shared.

So basically, 68% of my Facebook feed was nonsense. NONSENSE! And that was just 14 people. I HAVE 125 PEOPLE!

I am tired of this. I am tired of it all. I am taking back my social media. Hell, I am putting the social back in it.

Anyone got a cute picture of their dog I can see?

A Revival

I am sick of social media. Facebook is so full of people who believe everything on the internet. David calls Facebook a bunch of “Dank Memes” and funny cat pictures. Twitter is only useful for news. I use it as my own special news feed. It includes nice things like when Disneyland is open and what movies are coming out. And Instagram is becoming less of family pictures and more of those “dank memes”. I am tired of it. I want to hear about my friends and family. I don’t want to be blasted from both sides with political drama and nonsense. I want to share my life with my family and friends as well. But I can’t do that on Facebook any more. No one will notice between the political drama and the cat pictures. No, I will not copy and paste to show I love America or veterans or cats or my spouse or that I support cancer research or saving the whales.

So I am bringing back the blog. It’s retro. It’s hip. It’s cool. And you know what?

IT IS MINE!

No dank memes.

No funny cat pictures.

NO POLITICAL DRAMA!

Actually, let’s just go with NO DRAMA!

Keep it to yourself.

I am quite excited about this. I finally have a place where I can record my family history in peace. Okay, so I had it all along and I let technology come and jerk me around. You don’t know it yet, but I have already written at least 15 new posts. Yeah. I know.

So get ready.

And seriously, no more dank memes.

Happy New Year!

I am really going to try to do this more this year. The baby is growing up so fast and there is so much I want to document. I got this from a blogging buddy and I thought it would be a good way to start the year.

1. What did you do in 2012 that you had never done before?

We went to Yosemite. It was so beautiful. Also, I never had been pregnant in a prison before. That was a new experience. Finally, I had never had to have a pet put to sleep before. Our cat Betty had a liver disease. It was so sad.

2. Did you keep your New Year's resolutions and will you make some for 2013?

I don't think I made any. Last year at New Year's I had a terrible flu that just wouldn't go away. I found out I was pregnant the day after New Year's. So I guess I resolved to have a baby in 2012. So... Mission Accomplished!

For 2013, I am going to try and lose this baby fat. I will try and exercise more and eat better.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

Ummmmm..... How about me? Ha ha ha! Michelle was born in 2012, Year of the Dragon. Also, several of my co-workers had babies. And 2013 is bringing more! My sister and my cousin Wendy are currently expecting babies this spring. Also, more of my co-workers. Well, one I can think of who should be popping any day. And my friend Karen. She is also due very soon.

4. Did anyone close to you die?

My Grandpa passed away in the spring. I am sure he missed my Grandma and his health was bad. So it was hard to be sad about it. I have all the memories. And I don't believe he isn't still here. He and my Grandma and my other Grandparents are with me all the time.

5. What countries did you visit?

Ummm.... This one. That is it. I didn't even leave the state. Sad. Carolynn and Catherine went to Nevada to visit their dad for the first time in August. David went to Texas for his brother's wedding in October.

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you didn't have in 2012?

More money and more time off. And a kitchen table.

7. What dates from 2012 will be etched upon your memory and why?

September 5- Michelle's birthday!

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?

Michelle. Also moving to the new house. That was a chore. And getting my brother to text me. Also, a chore. Now, if I could get him to talk to me....

9. What was you biggest failure?

As always, diet and exercise. I suck at that. Also, saving money. I suck at that too.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?

Well, nine long pregnant months was no picnic. And the 2 weeks of vertigo toward the end there was awesome. But it was all worth it and I would do it again. (But just one more time, and not today.) Other than that, we had a pretty healthy year.

11. What was the best thing you bought?

David's car. All the baby stuff. Carolynn got a new bedroom set.

12. Whose behavior merited celebration?

David. He survived me pregnant. Lived through labor. Barely. And is a great dad. I knew he would be. Just look at Carolynn and Catherine.

13. Whose behavior made you appalled and depressed?

Politicians and the cast of Jersey Shore

14. Where did most of your money go?

Moving to the new house. Wasted on eating out too much.

15. What did you get excited about?

The baby. My baby shower. It was so cool seeing that much of my family.

16. What song will always remind you of 2012?

Michelle by The Beatles

17. Compared to this time last year, are you a) Happier or Sadder? b) Thinner or Fatter c) Richer or Poorer?

A- Happier. New baby, great family, good job. What is there to be sad about?
B- Slightly thinner. Shocking, I know. Not thin enough though.
C- About the same.

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?

Again.... Diet, exercise, and saving. Also, walking the dogs or taking them to the dog park. Spending more time with the teenagers before they leave me like jerks.

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?

Spend. Eat out. Worrying.

20. How did you spend Christmas?

I actually had the day off! We had planned on getting up and baking cookies and making a ham. However, we woke up to a broken oven. So we made spaghetti instead. Carolynn got a new sewing machine and spent the day making pajama pants for herself and the baby. Super cute. Catherine got a new computer. We may never see her again. The baby had a good time. She liked the excitement.

21. What was your favorite TV program?

Classic Simpson's. Friends reruns. Food Network and the History Channel. Disney Jr.

22. What was the best book you read?

What To Expect While You're Expecting

23. What did you want and get?

A healthy baby and a new house

24. What did you want and not get?

A baby boy... Not that I want to trade in Michelle. Also, a new car. I kind of want a mini van. I am such a mom.

25. What was your favorite film of 2012?

Brave

26. What did you do on your birthday and how old were you?

I was 35. I probably worked. Ugh.

27. What one thing would have made your year immensely more satisfying?

Winning the lottery

28. How would you describe your personal fashion concept of 2012?

Can you say maternity clothes? And nursing tops?

29. What kept you sane?

David. He is a trooper.

30. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2012.

Babies happen. It is okay to not worry. And I have been off my anxiety medicine for a whole year. Everything will work out.

Thursday Thirteen

So I haven't done one of these in a while and I figured I might give it a go. I have a bunch of random things to say so...

1. The air conditioner is broken and it's June. They sent a guy out on Tuesday and he said he'd have to order parts.

2. To make it worse, the screens on the house are missing. They sent a guy to measure for them on Saturday, but we haven't heard back yet. So we can't open the windows either.

3. David has gone to school full time this summer and is gone all day 4 days a week. It's so weird. But better now than when the baby comes.

4. Speaking of baby, we are just over 9 weeks until the due date. That is single digits people.

5. Also, the baby has no middle name yet. We are still working on it.

6. David got his purple belt in tae kwon do this week. He is now at the intermediate level. Which is nice since that is what Catherine is and now they can go together. That is less time they are gone every night.

7. Catherine got her orange belt a few weeks ago. They have their graduation on Saturday. I will make sure someone gets pictures.

8. Our garden is looking amazing. Another week or so and we will have actual edible food. Probably zucchini or tomato.

9. My sister is coming next month for a baby shower. As much as I love me some baby loot, I will be even happier to see my family.

10. It must be in the water, because I have three friends who are also pregnant. I have a feeling there will be more baby showers in my future.

11. So You Think You Can Dance is back!

12. Carolynn got her driver's permit this week. Please stay off the roads. Of course so far she has only managed to stall and leave tire marks in the driveway.

13. Why did Matthew McConaughey make a movie about strippers? And why am I not watching it right now? Wow.
